Goals and Time Estimates:
Design mounting system for bulb (~6 hours)
Order hanging light fixtures for final design (~30 min)
Print new full size designs (~2 hours)
Develop user testing plan (~2 hours)
Progress and Actual Time:
To be honest, I haven't made much progress on this project this week. I've been struggling with my mental health, as well as deadlines for other classes and projects. I'm still in the process of adapting my design to fit a standard light fixture, which is made slightly more complex by the way my script currently works to create the organic shape of the lamp. I'm working on a way to have the line consistently 'grow' around the shape of the fixture and bulb, without causing glitches and overlaps that would make it impossible to print. The models I have right now involve tweaking lots of parameters as the simulation runs in order to create space for the bulb. Ideally, I would like to have all of these automated, so that all it takes to create a new design is a single click.
Once I finalize this design I'll be able to print them in full size and assemble. The next step is to find people to user test my project. This will mostly involve presenting people with the fully assembled design and asking for feedback, and their opinions on the commercial potential of the project, i.e. would people be willing to buy it.
