Goals and Time Estimates:
Complete Grasshopper script with exported STLs for test prints (~5 hours)
Test LEDs and begin working on light animation (~3 hours)
Reach out to Joel for advice on design (~1.5 hours )
Brainstorm ways to do user testing. Explore other phenomena that could be created in a similar way and how to link data about the form to the lighting within it. (~1.5 hours)
Progress and Actual Time:
After experimenting with my grasshopper script, I've found ways to alter the rate of growth and turn constraints on and off that allow the structure to develop with room inside for the LED lights. I have several final STLs that I plan to begin printing with as soon as possible. I've also reached out to a friend of mine who works in the Boulder Experimental Electronics and Manufacturing Laboratory (BEEM lab) about using their equipment to 3d print my project in a ceramic material. This would be a much nicer material for my project and give it a much more substantial and higher quality feel than if it were simply printed in PLA. I still have not been able to access the ITLL to do experimental 3d printing, But I have been in contact with Rachel Sharpe and I hope to get access this week. If not, I should be able to submit a print request remotely.
I have also reached out to Joel and plan to meet with him this week for advice about how to further develop the conceptual side of my project.
